ART FAIR: SCOPE Hamptons

East Hampton, NY - East Hampton Studios
July 26 - 29, 2007
Greene Contemporary has been selected as one of sixty galleries to participate in this international art fair that will take place in East Hampton, New York from Thursday July 26 through Sunday July 29, 2007. Greene Contemporary will be featuring new work by Sabrina Small who last had a one person exhibition with the gallery in February 2007. This summer Small has participated in exhibitions in Berlin and Stuttgart, Germany.

Small's work on paper demonstrates a sophistication and measured growth in ideas she has been distilling and refining over the past fifteen years. She has extraordinary control of her materials usually charcoal and pastel. The reward of looking at her work is both visceral and cerebral. The mind is stimulated and the senses are satisfied. Her meandering line that creates forms encourages the viewer's pursuit of personal dreams and imaginings.

Sabrina Small's most recent work from 2007 is subtle yet highly charged. On small iridescent sheets of paper she isolates one or two figures that appear to be having "brainstorms." This headwear - a combination of wig and organic helmet - suggests individuals communicating important or distressing information. In her work energized and seductive characters emerge from the paper. These figures become armatures for sinuous abstract shapes where black, brown and blue saturate the page creating a mood of disquiet and tension.

Greene Contemporary represents emerging, mid-career and established artists as well as the Estate of Syd Solomon. Jonathan Greene is "pleased to be returning to East Hampton for the second time." "Last year was a success with featured artist Joseph Arnegger and we are looking forward to a similar experience with Sabrina Small." Greene added. "With wireless internet and our laptop database we will be able to access our complete inventory virtually from the booth in the Hamptons." In addition to Small as the featured artist, Greene Contemporary will also show work by Trong Nguyen and Robyn Voshardt / Sven Humphrey.

The fair can be reached easily by car, train and plane. The East Hampton airport is within walking distance of the fair and the East Hampton train station is a short cab ride away if people are traveling from Manhattan by rail.
