The list of artists in the show EACH of whom will be showing NEW WORK includes: Joseph Arnegger, Aaron Board, Omar Chacon, Brian Haverlock, Douglas Higgins, Steven Katzman, Paul Lorenz, Nicole Mauser, David Piurek, Patricia Prince Tunnell, Jeffrey Schwartz, Sabrina Small, Mike Solomon, and Robyn Voshardt / Sven Humphrey.
Assemblage is defined in two distinct ways. First, as a group of persons or things gathered or collected; an assembly; collection; aggregate. Second and referenced in the world of art, an assemblage is a sculptural technique of organizing or composing into a unified whole a group of unrelated and often fragmentary or discarded objects. This show embodies both of these definitions.
These artists were gathered together over a period of two years and now serve as the gallery artists for Greene Contemporary, their art always available through the gallery. Artists themselves are often found fragmented or discarded by the process of art and being an artist. This exhibition embodies a collection of people, an assembly of different works into one unified show without a central theme, but for their representative home. Greene Contemporary has always sought to bring artists together and this show is another way to accomplish this goal.
The work will range in scale from Brian Haverlock's less than six inch high microscopically detailed surreal painting to Paul Lorenz's five foot square expressive abstract canvas. With pen, ink and collage on paper Jeff Schwartz creates dramatic light and shadow in interior spaces. Patricia Prince Tunnell's new digital print is a diptych that appropriates ideas from Jeff Wall and Richard Prince while creating a new terrain for the Marlboro man. Robyn Voshardt and Sven Humphrey are represented by two dynamic abstract black ink on recycled paper rolled drawings. Sabrina Small has created new drawings on small iridescent sheets of paper where she isolates one or two figures and their "beehives." Joseph Arnegger will be showing a large painting about contemplating the sea. Omar Chacon will be showing a colorful drip over drip painting. Nicole Mauser will be represented by a new abstract painting. David Piurek is exhibiting the "Grand Duke" from his new "Sigmoid Series." Mike Solomon is showing a new subtle abstract that is beeswax on rice paper over acrylic paint on board. Douglas Higgins is showing a new painting on paper, Aaron Board a new painting on panels and Steven Katzman is exhibiting a photograph collage.
